Asher’s Community & Rural Work
Asher Taccori received a scholarship from the Blue Mountains Health Trust in 2012. Asher recently sent us an update of his progress. We are so proud of the work Asher is doing in rural communities and how he is giving back to the community.
“I am now in my final year of medical school (Doctor of Medicine) at the University of Notre Dame. I'm posted in Ballarat, Victoria for my final year of placement. I am involved in the rural immersion program ‘Bush Bursary’, funded by the Rural Doctors Network where I spent two weeks shadowing rural generalists in Tumut and Tumbarumba in 2021.
I was also involved in the organisation ‘Street Side Medics’ as a volunteer during my first few years of medical school. They help serve the homeless with free and accessible medical services. The only other thing of note I can think of is publishing my first academic article. Otherwise, I have stayed focused on my studies, which unfortunately do not allow much time for many other activities.”
